Kanonkop Kadette Cape Blend
The name Kanonkop is derived from a hillock (kop) on the Simonsberg mountain above the estate from where, during the 17th and 18th centuries, a cannon (kanon) was fired to announce the arrival of sailing ships entering Table Bay.
The roar of the cannon would be the signal to local farmers, who were waiting to make the 50-kilometer journey to the harbour, to load up their wagons with fresh fruit and vegetables to barter their produce.
The first wines bearing the Kanonkop label were produced in 1973.
Kanonkop Kadette Pinotage Rosé is a full-bodied dry rosé, this wine is made by the traditional method of bleeding the juice off the Pinotage grapes after only the slightest skin contact, producing a classic onionskin colour. The floral bouquet leads to notes of cherry and red grapefruit, with a firm succulence and racy freshness on the palate. An ideal food wine.
Kanonkop Kadette Cape Blend category requires a minimum Pinotage component of 30%. In the Kadette, the Pinotage element is rounded off with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, all aged in oak. The result is an opulent red wine offering an array of red and black fruit flavours underscored by depth and complexity.
Kanonkop Kadette Pinotage wine features the classic characteristics of South Africa’s famous homegrown grape variety. Autumnal, juicy dark fruit is complemented by an enticing savoury character with just a hint of underlying sweetness. Ageing in used French oak barrels produces a lean, muscular
structure and supple tannins.
